My BiasesThe biases I have coming into this study cannot be changed. This is the background and these are the beliefs that I am coming to this with. Whether they affect how you read my work is up to you, but I believe it is something you should be aware of. 1. I believe gender is a social construction (and can argue this if you wish). 2. I am socially liberal and believe that the traditional model of gender is ultimately deleterious. 3. I am an American and will therefore view things through the lens of American culture. Not being Japanese, I cannot view anime through the lens of a Japanese viewer nor can I speak of how a person acculturated in Japanese traditions would view these characters and films. I can only speak for myself as an American viewer. |
