A Feminist Critique of Animation

This is my ongoing feminist study of animation, generally the roles of women, the evolution of those roles, and what conclusions can be drawn from these observations. I say my study, because the opinions and conclusions presented here are primarily my own. I am interested in the opinions of others, both from scholars and from visitors to this site, and it is my hope that we can create a dialogue concerning the questions and issues that are raised. I see this site as a resource for women and men, parents, and animation lovers of all sorts to discuss the construction of gender and gender roles in animation.

Also, you may notice the slightly new format with this critique, which I think makes it easier to read.  I hope soon to have all the old critiques switched over to this format.

12 April 2008 - welcome our new affiliate, La Feministe Imaginare!  It's a new feminist blog critiquing modern fantasy and sci-fi, including manga and anime.

I hope to have more time soon to get back to my critiquing.  This semester is almost finished and I'm almost done with this degree as well, so it bodes well for making more time available.

About this layout
I got this layout at Celestial Star - the link is at the bottom.  The image came from Oxide 2, an Artbook by Hyung-Tae Kim.  Both the stock image and the artwork can be found at Celestial Star Gallery. The creator of this layout says the "image was fully edited with Photoshop with the use of lots of layers, then coded on Notepad with tables and CSS as usual. No brushes were used. The source code has been validated, so this layout will most likely look good in most browsers."
